In 1996, Horacio was driving his Chevy truck on the streets of Dinuba thinking about troubled youth in his neighborhood and wondering how he could help them. He happened to drive by a group of boys who showed their approval of Aleman’s truck with a thumbs-up sign.

For Horacio, it was a sign from above. He would hold a Christian-theme car show to attract teens and tell them about the Lord. And he’s done that for the past 14 years.

The annual Cruising for Jesus Car Show has its home show at C.F. Mueller Park in Reedley, California. Scores of cars are entered in the showing, including bicycles. Plaques are provided by the Rotary Club of Reedley. Every year the car show grows, many times with over 2,000 attending.

Rod Harms, owner of Rod’s Body and Paint, said the service club views the event as one way to provide young people with a positive outlet. “I was impressed with what I saw at the first car show. The word of Christ was being expressed in skits, music and testimony. This doesn’t solve all the problems, but it gives youth someone and a new angle to look at life.”
